Minimalism and Folklore

Piano Works and Improvisations by Ting Luo

This intimate performance becomes a pilgrimage through sound, city, and self—where urban consciousness meets personal reflection, and collective becoming encounters individual awakening.

Ting Luo is a pianist, composer, and multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the intimate and the expansive. Blending neoclassical, folk-inspired lyricism, and post-minimalist piano with cinematic textures and evocative soundscapes, her music creates emotionally resonant spaces for healing and deep reflection.

In this performance, she presents Green, a piano suite for healing, and new compositions including Paradox Without an End (2026, piano solo), Perfectly Imperfect (2026, piano and violin) and Cold City (2026, piano and violin). Through lyrical melodies, atmospheric layers, and subtle environmental sounds, Ting explores the paradox of maintaining inner sanctuary amid the city's relentless rhythms.

Ting also brings an improvised work in the tradition of John Cage's prepared piano — metal objects introduced into the instrument, transforming its voice into something unfamiliar and unexpectedly beautiful.

To her rhythym 与她流淌 | Piano Works & Poetic Dialogues with Ting Luo

Presented by Now Place 此间 - Tiny Stage Special Edition & New Arts Collaboration

An evening where we create a shared listening space for improvised piano and poetic dialogue.

An evening of piano works and live poetic dialogues. The program features original compositions and multimedia art, followed by real-time improvisations between piano and the voices of four Bay Area women poets. Dissolving the boundaries between melody, environmental sound, and verse, this performance creates a meditative space where music and word collide and resonate.
